Core characteristics of TZM alloy
High temperature performance:
The melting point is as high as 2610℃,and it can work for a long time at 1200℃~1800℃(better than pure molybdenum).
The high temperature tensile strength is significantly better than pure molybdenum(such as 30%~50%higher strength at 1500℃).
Creep resistance:The solid solution strengthening effect of Ti/Zr suppresses high-temperature deformation and is suitable for withstanding long-term thermal stress.
Corrosion resistance:It has good resistance to molten metals(such as copper and aluminum),non oxidizing atmospheres(H₂,Ar),and some acids and bases.
The recrystallization temperature is high:about 1400℃(1000℃for pure molybdenum),and the fine crystal structure is still maintained at high temperatures.
Difficulties in Processing and Manufacturing
Precision molding:
Powder metallurgy(HIP hot isostatic pressing)or smelting forging requires control of Ti/Zr composition segregation.
Complex structures require slow wire cutting(accuracy±0.01mm)or laser processing.
Welding process:
Electron beam welding or argon arc welding(preheated to 800℃to avoid cracking).
Surface treatment:
Silicide coatings(such as MoSi₂)enhance oxidation resistance(up to 1700℃).
Polishing or nickel plating reduces the risk of high-temperature adhesion.
