Characteristics of tungsten

High melting point(3422°C):Suitable for high-temperature environments such as furnace components and rocket nozzles.

High density(19.25 g/cm³):used for radiation shielding(medical,nuclear industry)or weight distribution(aerospace).

High hardness(Mohs hardness 7.5):Good wear resistance(molds,cutting tools).

Corrosion resistance:resistant to acid and alkali erosion,but may oxidize at high temperatures(requiring coating protection).

Industrial field:electrodes(electrical discharge machining),heating elements,crucibles,extrusion molds.

Medical field:X-ray collimator,radiotherapy shield.

Military/Aerospace:Missile counterweights,gyroscope rotors.

Processing technology

Powder metallurgy:Tungsten is difficult to melt and is usually formed by pressing and sintering(complex shapes require isostatic pressing).

Mechanical processing:After sintering,diamond cutting tools can be used for turning/grinding,but the cost is high.

Wire cutting/EDM:suitable for high-precision cutting.

Welding:requires argon gas protection(tungsten inert gas welding).
